Skyworks Solutions, Inc.

Intern

May - August 2024 • Thousand Oaks, CA

What I liked

My responsibility is to help the EM teams optimize a full module, focusing on traces and rerouting to achieve better insertion loss and isolation. 1. I like the working environment, including all the friendly and helpful co-workers, and the flexible working schedule. 2. I enjoy the job flow, which is very logical, detail-oriented, and requires teamwork and cooperation. 3. The stipend and benefits are great and do not encourage overworking.

What I wish was different

1. It would be better if the company provided more systematic guidance for new hires to help them understand the first day schedule and office resources better. 2. I wish I had learned more basics by myself after work.

Advice

Don't be afraid of the overwhelming simulation process when getting started. It is always hard at first, but by asking questions and practicing persistently, you can master all the software. Remember to take well-organized notes during the learning process!

Engineering Co-op

May 2022 • Thousand Oaks, CA

What I liked

The working atmosphere is good, almost everyone there is friendly and patient. The colleagues are very hard working which will give you some strength to keep working. During the work time, I can learn a lot of practical circuit design skills which I can not get from campus. The project is challenged and interesting, sometimes I always forget the time and devote myself into the project. The amount of the work is reasonable for me, I think I can balance the life and job here.

What I wish was different

I wish that I could get familiar with the whole design process of the module, but it needs takes some more time. There's still 3 months left for the internship and I believe I can get more experience about that. Before I came, I think the working hardware environment will be good for internship, which can provide good working efficiency, but the laptop is old. However, I think it may be better in the future.

Advice

I strongly recommend engineering students to have the internship. It can let you know how the knowledge you have learned in campus applied to the industry and what's the usage difference between them. Also, when someone is in the internship, he or she had better to ask more question to their mentor and ask for more works, only by that way, we can learn more knowledge and skill. Your hard working and curiosity will help you to advance in your career life.
