Summary
Responsible for overseeing the management, execution, and quality assurance of transportation construction projects. This role involves evaluating construction elements, materials, and design details to advise clients on how to successfully complete projects. You will use your engineering knowledge and independent judgment to provide recommendations and support throughout the project lifecycle.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Understands and interprets local, state, and/or federal Standard Specifications and Procedures. Uses judgment and problem-solving skills to answer contractor questions and adapt plans to actual field conditions when necessary.
- Identifies and addresses construction issues, such as design flaws or material quality, using engineering knowledge. Assesses complex challenges like road closures, material substitutions, and utility relocations, providing cost-effective solutions.
- Works closely with senior engineers to communicate effectively with clients and key stakeholders, helping resolve issues related to project timelines, design changes, and costs.
- Observes and documents contractor work to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and regulatory requirements. Keeps detailed, accurate records of work completed.
- Provides support for resolving work-related issues, including contractor and public complaints.
- Applies engineering principles to guide quality assurance methods and standards in areas such as site design and construction.
- Coordinates and supervises subconsultants, ensuring project scope adherence and approving invoices for payment.
- Assists with construction layout work and utility testing, performing tasks such as yield checks, depth checks, and more.
- Maintains organized project documentation, ensuring it is audit-ready for any formal reviews by funding agencies.
- Assists with other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Civil Engineering preferred.
- At least 1 year of related construction observation experience preferred.
- Familiarity with documentation requirements and inspection procedures is a plus.
- Strong time management, communication, and technical skills are essential.
- Familiarity with engineering-related equipment.
- Must possess knowledge of MS Office suite of products.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to work in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, snow, rain) for extended periods of time and stand for 8 to 12 hours per day.
This work requires standing on uneven terrain. Employees must also be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs. (concrete cylinders), sit, walk, talk, hear, and reach with hands or arms. Hand eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and other office equipment as required. The employee is also required to kneel, crouch, and bend.
