CAD Drafter / Designer

OPPORTUNITY

Job Title: CAD Drafter / Designer

Location:  Austin, TX (Hybrid) or Houston, TX (Hybrid)

Job Description: EDGE Engineering is seeking a CAD Designer or Drafter to join our team in either Austin, TX or Houston, TX. The CAD Designer/Drafter will work closely with staff across the company including Project Managers, Task Leads, and Engineer’s-in-Training to produce design plans, construction details, and exhibits. The ideal candidate is driven, and able to self-learn new and ever-changing software, with the desire to grow within the company and the opportunity to make a significant impact on the efficient development and implementation of CAD standards. Projects will include public transportation, drainage, aviation, flood control, and water quality design. Applicants should be driven and committed to excellence and growth through hard work and dedication.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Utilize computer-aided drafting, design software, and various other computer software packages to assist in the preparation of construction details, design plans, reports, and exhibits.
  • Transfers information in numerical, written, sketched, or electronic format from engineering markups and computer files to final plans and maps. 
  • Visualizes and illustrates concepts or designs in 2D or 3D. 
  • Inform Project Manager(s) of progress on assigned tasks and request work when needed. 
  • Meet assigned deadlines. 
  • Assist in the development and implementation of company-wide CAD standards.

Requirements

  • Proficient in specialized civil design applications for AutoCAD, MicroStation or Open Roads Designer software. 
  • Proficient in other widely used computer applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite products). 
  • Basic knowledge of computer file directories and use. 
  • Able to assist in the preparation of construction quantity and cost estimates. 

Preferred

  • Fundamental understanding of a variety of basic civil engineering principles and design procedures including but not limited to drainage, pipe hydraulics, storm water detention, grading, earthwork computations, water and wastewater systems, storm water pollution prevention, etc. 
  • Knowledge of TxDOT and standard civil construction plans, details, and related documents.
