Summer Intern Mechanical Engineering

Luminator is seeking to fill our Summer Intern Mechanical Engineering role to join our growing and dynamic Aerospace Team where you will be an integral part of the business by providing valuable input to the goals and mission of our Internship program. You will gain valuable engineering skills by working alongside a highly experienced Engineering team working on real world solutions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering at an accredited university
  • Familiarity with mechanical drawings
  • Familiarity with MCAD software (e.g. CATIA, SolidWorks, NX, etc.)
  • Proficiency in using basic MS Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, and Powerpoint)
  • Proficiency in using basic laboratory equipment and tools including power supplies, hand tools, and basic power tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with creating drawings with tolerances including GD&T
  • Knowledge of plastic injection molding, sheet metal, and machining manufacturing methods
  • Experience with electronics packaging
  • Knowledge of FEM/FEA tools for structural and thermal analyses (e.g. ANSYS)
  • Familiarity with PLM systems (e.g. SmarTeam, Teamcenter, Windchill)

Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshooting production issues with legacy designs
  • Creating 3D CAD models from legacy 2D drawings
  • Create 3D CAD models and drawings for new product designs
  • Create and maintain drawings for mechanical test equipment.
  • Support the Engineering Change Documentation (ECO) process.
  • Support the prototype fabrication for ongoing projects.
  • Support qualification testing of ongoing projects.
