As a Congressional Affairs Team Lead/Transportation Specialist, you will:

• Lead the Congressional Affairs Team in establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with Congress, Congressional Committees, and Congressional staff.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for state and local officials and groups (governors, mayors, local delegations, state transportation officials, and more) regarding their surface transportation priorities.
• Monitor and track daily proceedings of Congress and requests and keep abreast of Congressional action which might affect FHWA (advising leadership accordingly).
• Coordinate and manage responses to Congressional requests for technical assistance from FHWA (or other Congressional inquiries).
• Support FHWA and the U.S. Department of Transportation witnesses to prepare for Congressional hearings and meetings.

The ideal candidate for this position is an energetic and visionary leader with political and organizational savvy and a customer-service orientation who can work comfortably and capably in a fast-paced, flexible, and team-oriented work environment and communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, including senior executives.

The ideal candidate should have experience with handling complex and sensitive congressional issues; an understanding of FHWA’s policies, programs, and authorities, and of associated Congressional committees and procedure; and skill in coaching, developing, and motivating team members.

The duty location for this position is Washington, DC. This position is telework-eligible, but not remote work-eligible. Relocation is approved for this position.
