Landscape Designer

Summary

Tate Landscaping is looking for an ambitious, skilled and experienced Landscape Designer / Architect to join our team and take charge of the planning and development of external spaces for our valued clients. As a Landscaping Designer / Architect, your primary responsibilities will involve creating landscape plans, engaging in meaningful consultations with customers to understand their specific desires, and preparing comprehensive contracts to ensure the successful completion of necessary work.  In this role, you will play a crucial part in collaborating with vendors and clients throughout the entire project lifecycle, from initial planning to final delivery. Your expertise and insights will be instrumental in guiding the decision-making process and ensuring that the vision and objectives of our clients are transformed into remarkable outdoor spaces.

Primary Responsibilities

Landscape Design and Project Management

  • Liaise with fellow architects, project managers, building contractors, engineers, and surveyors
  • Work with clients to understand their objectives
  • Draw up reports and contracts
  • Prepare site plans and graphic representations of plans using computer-aided design (CAD) software or other means
  • Prepare cost estimates and oversee the project’s budget
  • Manage profitability and performance of landscape installation contracts, ensuring costs are in accordance with budget and performance meets contracted quality and service level. 

 

Project Management & Customer satisfaction

  • Ensure quality and customer satisfaction through regular site visits, relationship building and communication with owners, clients, architects, general contractors and sub-contractors

 

Sales & Business Development

  • Scout for new clients and works with other team members to generate proposals and close contracts
  • Identify, proposes and sells upsells and enhancement services; ensures work is completed successfully, on time and on budget. 
  • Network with local builders, contractors, architects, property managers and others to identify potential projects
  • Speak to community members to gain insight and identify potential opportunities

Capabilities

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Effectively communicate (written/verbal) with other team members and leaders, including business development opportunities, schedules, coaching, corrective actions, customer issues, etc.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus, but not necessary
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Solid interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution skills with customers, employees and subcontractors.
  • Ability to understand costs, revenue, billing, budgets, hours worked and other accounting and business concepts
  • Basic math skills and ability to perform calculations such as area and volume
  • Drive to continuously improve on processes
  • Ability to use a computer, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and ability to learn other applications used in performance and management of landscape services
  • Proven work experience as a Landscape Designer / Architect or similar role
  • Practical experience with CAD software
  • Good creative flair and imagination
  • Ability to respond and make adaptations to feedback

Education, Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study
  • Significant landscape experience, resulting in a clear understanding of different aspects of landscaping, turf maintenance, plant materials, and sitework
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license
  • Relevant training and/or certifications as a Landscape Designer / Architect

 

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, 7:45am-5:00pm, with some weekend work due to seasonality and customer demand.  Work environment is typically outdoors and involves machinery and toxic chemicals and loud noise levels.  While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, crouch, climb, crawl and smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds and must occasionally lift and/or move 100 pounds, depending on the needs of specific work unit. Specific vision abilities required include close & distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
