General description
The Comptroller’s office is seeking Accounts Examiner III positions in the Account Maintenance Division. These positions do not require experience in the duties described below. We will prepare you for the role by pairing you with experienced staff for on-the-job training.
Candidates should be detail-oriented, able to work independently and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced processing environment. The ideal candidate will have knowledge in calculating tax, penalty, interest and refund amounts along with computer proficiency and strong verbal and written communication skills. The candidate must be able to work in a team environment, be adaptable to changing workplace demands and communicate effectively with internal and external customers and agency staff at all levels.
The Account Maintenance Division of the Texas Comptroller’s office works to accurately and efficiently process applications, reports, refunds, bonds and license renewals for taxpayer accounts.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from a college or university with an associate’s or bachelor’s degree.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business-related field
Experience in accounting, finance or business dealing with analytical/problem-solving issues
Experience in a Windows Environment and standard office software including Microsoft Word and Excel
Experience speaking Spanish in a customer-oriented work experience
Experience with Secretary of State and Texas Workforce Commission inquiry
Experience in Tax processing systems including ITS, TPR and AWM
Substitutions
Education requirement may be substituted with up to four (4) years of office related experience.
In this role you will:
  • Conduct research on complex taxpayer accounts, analyzing for proper disposition and completing processing requirements.
  • Be responsible for processes electronic transmissions of tax reports and payment information.
  • Identify system problems, complete change requests.
  • Resolve reporting problems and file maintenance changes.
  • Respond to inquiries both verbally and in writing. Provide information to co-workers, management, other agency personnel and the public.
  • Be responsible for conducting quality assurance on work tasks.
