General Description: The Technical Analyst II role provides skilled analytical, installation, and critical power needs for all county infrastructure secured spaces (Main Distribution Facilities (MDF) and Intermediate Data Facilities (IDF)). Involves analytical and production services work related to power consumption, equipment monitoring, redundancy and continuity of operational planning. This position reports directly to the Sr. Technical Support Manager with the Information Technology team.
Essential Job Functions: Provides field support for troubleshooting issues, installation, maintenance, and inventory of UPS devices, including battery management, replacement, and UPS performance monitoring. Reports any electrical-related issues to the County Facilities department. Performs equipment adds, moves, changes, and disconnects, relative to work order requests. Performs routine inspections and preventive maintenance on power infrastructure hardware. Administers and oversees Environmental Monitoring and Alerting. Install, terminate, and test CAT5e/CAT6. single-mode fiber, multi-mode fiber and other cabling technologies. Organize and maintain network closers, ensuring proper labeling, cable management, and environmental standards. Interfaces with department users to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues. Work with members of other support teams in the County to analyze/troubleshoot systems related to UPS. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of uninterruptible power supply devices,.
- Knowledge of programming, and safety standards related to battery trays, and proper cooling techniques.
- Knowledge of wiring (Cat 5/6, multimedia cabling, fiber, coaxial, etc.) and connections.
- Ability to work from manuals and/or diagrams.
- Ability to locate faulty circuits.
- Ability to pull and punch down network cable and diagnose/repair Cat 5/6 network connections. Fiber splicing and repairs.
- Ability to follow established standards and make suggestions for improvement.
- Ability to perform equipment moves, adds, and changes on County equipment.
- Ability to work form blueprints, cut sheets, or county work orders.
- Ability to leverage productivity applications, specifically MS Office, MS Outlook, MS Teams, and similar applications.
- Ability to present oral and written reports clearly and concisely.
- Ability to work independently as well as be a team player.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and the public.
Minimum Requirements:
PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects. Ability to go up and down ladders and through crawl spaces. Ability to operate a keyboard. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field and three (3) years of experience in development and/or maintenance of power infrastructure/network operations OR graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related field and five (5) years' experience OR graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and seven (7) years' experience. Experience troubleshooting technical problems. Experience or hands-on training in two (2) of more of the following: Networking and operating system concepts, including the operating characteristics, capabilities, and limitations of electronic computer equipment and Microsoft Windows platforms. Experience in the following technologies preferred: IP and subnets, firewalls, TCP/IP troubleshooting, power load calculations and load balancing, runtime planning, battery replacement lifecycle, and environmental monitoring.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Certification in one of the following: CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Server+, CNCI, CAT-6A Premise Cabling Installer, PDU and UPS Technician Training, CCST, or Panduit Infrastructure Specialist is required. Manufacturer-specific UPS training (e.g., APC, Eaton, Vertiv) preferred.
